Hi, I'm Chris.
WP Base is me.

I build and look after WordPress sites for small businesses in Northern Ireland and across the UK. The person who picks up the phone is the same person who does the work, which cuts out a lot of the waiting around that people have come to expect from web agencies.

Most small business websites have nobody looking after them

The pattern is nearly always the same. Someone builds the site, it goes live, it looks grand for about a year, and then it sits there. Plugins go out of date, the contact form stops sending, the hosting gets slower as the company you signed up with gets bought and sold, and nobody notices until an enquiry that should have arrived doesn't.

I came into this from design rather than from IT support, and I've spent the last several years building websites and doing the SEO work that decides whether anyone ever sees them. That combination is why I care about the boring end of it. A site that loads in four seconds or falls over after an update isn't a technical problem, it's a business one, and it's usually invisible until it costs you something.

So WP Base does the unglamorous part properly. Updates, backups, security, speed, and someone paying attention. If you'd rather not think about your website at all, that's the whole idea.

Four things you can hold me to

You own everything

Your site, your hosting, your domain, all of it in accounts with your name on them. Nothing is held hostage on my side, and if you ever want to move on, any competent developer can pick the work up without a handover fight. I'd rather keep clients because they want to stay.

Plain English, always

You don't need to know what a PHP version is, and you shouldn't have to pretend you do to get a straight answer. I'll tell you what the problem is, what it's costing you in enquiries or reputation, and what I'd do about it. If I ever start talking in acronyms, pull me up on it.

Small on purpose

I look after a handful of sites on care plans rather than as many as I can sign. That's what makes it possible to answer the phone myself and to know your site well enough to spot something before you do. When it gets busy I bring in people I've worked with locally for years, and I'll tell you when I do.

Honest about what's worth doing

Plenty of website work isn't worth paying for, and I'll say so. If a redesign won't move the needle and a faster host will, I'll tell you to spend the money on the host. Turning down work I don't think will pay for itself has cost me a bit and earned me more, mostly in referrals.

“Couldn't recommend Chris enough, our site hasn't gone down once.” Catagen
“Finally, someone who just handles it without the back and forth.” Export Explore
“We used to dread WordPress updates. Now we don't even think about them.” InclusionIQ
“Fast, honest, and easy to work with. Exactly what we needed.” ClimaTech Green Flight

Whether I'm the right fit

I'm a good fit if you've got a WordPress site that matters to your business and nobody responsible for it, and you'd rather deal with one person than a ticket queue. I'm a poor fit if you need a large team, round-the-clock cover, or a platform that isn't WordPress. I'll say so early rather than take the work and hope.

The easiest first step is a free audit. Send me your address and I'll go through the site properly and tell you what I find, including the parts that are fine. There's no obligation attached, and if the honest answer is that your site is in decent shape, that's what you'll get.
